Embark on the ultimate adrenaline rush of the Walk Fest weekend! This challenging hike covers 12 wild miles of the epic Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail. On a heart-pounding traverse, you’ll cross forested ridges above Anacortes, connect to the John Tursi Trail, then finish with a triumphant crossing of the jaw-dropping Deception Pass Bridge. Return shuttle provided.

Explore a deep woods realm of ancient cedars, firs and maples with an emerald fern understory. Your walk mixes history with splendid scenery, including rock walls, meadows and lake views. Along the middle section of the ridge walk, you’ll pass remnants of an old miner’s shack, abandoned mine shaft, red rock quarry. Short, steep sections with ruts and rocks; bring your walking sticks. Tursi Trail is tough, but your efforts will be rewarded.

Start your Guemes island foray with a short ferry ride, then a relaxed, scenic stroll along a quiet shoreline road to the Guemes Mountain trailhead. From there, tackle a steady 1.5-mile climb to the summit, where bird’s-eye views await: sweeping vistas south, east to Mt. Baker and north to waterways and islands. Clear day highlights majestic Olympics and Cascade peaks and valleys. Return on the same route to your short ferry ride. Leave time for a beverage at the store.

A “road less travelled” in the Anacortes Community Forest Lands (ACFL), this hidden gem of a trail offers varied terrain and a great workout as you circumnavigate Mt. Erie. Why just look out from the summit view when you can walk the whole mountain? Trail 247 is known to insiders for its lush forest and the history of conservation and land access/acquisition on the edges of the ACFL in this outing. If blue skies allow, spot Mt. Rainier on the southern horizon.

On this fascinating tour of 4 ponds, you are immersed in the tranquil core of the north end of the Anacortes Community Forest Lands. Your path winds through groves of mossy maples, around wetlands and past fern-covered rocks. Climb ridges, navigate roots, rocks then drop to lakeside. Enjoy the varied terrain of the ACFL. Explore the bat cave if you dare.

One of our more challenging treks, this adventure begins with a steady climb through the forest towards Sugarloaf Mountain. At the top, you’re rewarded with sweeping views to the west of salt water and islands dotting the shore. The trail then continues to Mount Erie, where you’ll find another incredible viewpoint. Be prepared for steep inclines, wide panoramas, a rewarding workout. Measured pace keeps this hike fun, entertaining every step.

207 — Sharpe Park-Montgomery-Duban Headlands — Stunning terrain with coastal views

Your treat here is a pair of high coastal headland vantage points with far-ranging views. On top, to the far southwest (sunshine permitting), you’ll enjoy the immersive views of the snow-capped summits of the Olympics. Closer at hand are Lopez and Decatur Islands, with the outlines of San Juan Island and Vancouver Island in the distance. Lots of up and down; bring walking sticks.
