Are pets and dogs allowed?

Pets and dogs are not allowed. We all love our pets. In the interest of safety (for participants and dogs, as well as sensitive wildlife and birds), Walk Fest does not allow dogs or pets, except service animals. The presence of a dog can scatter wildlife and cause distress.  For this reason we do not allow dogs on any of our walks. We regret any disappointment that this may cause.

Will photos be taken during the walks?

Sometimes. A photographer may join walks to capture moments for future festival promotion. If you’d rather not be photographed, just let the photographer or walk leader know—they’ll make sure you’re not included.

What if I’m unsure about my walking ability?

Look at the walk grading key before booking. All walks are rated on a scale of easy, moderate or hard. Only sign up for walks that match your comfort and ability levels; you’ll have a much better time!

How do I know if a walk is right for me?

Each walk is graded to help you decide if it suits your general fitness and agility levels. Grades consider details such as distance, duration, terrain, pace and obstacles—so please choose wisely to make it enjoyable for you and everyone else. Each walk listing provides the general theme for the outing to help you choose.

Should I bring water and snacks?

Walkers should bring their own water container. Snacks are optional but even on our shorter hikes you might benefit from something to snack on.

What should I wear?

Walk leaders have the right to turn away anyone who isn’t dressed appropriately. Walking boots or sturdy shoes with good treads are a must—even on shorter routes. Wear multiple layers and bring a good rain/wind jacket.

What about parking?

If you’re parking before your walk, make sure you check location details. Some walks have limited parking, particularly Anacortes Community Forest Lands trailheads.

Whenever possible, please carpool with friends and family. Note, too, that parking in Deception Pass State Park requires a Discover Pass Parking tag. Details found here: discoverpass.wa.gov

Are the walk durations and lengths exact?

Not quite! Walk times and distances are approximate. Times can vary depending on the size and pace of the group. It’s all part of the adventure.

Am I walking at my own risk?

Yes. All walkers take part at their own risk. Walk Fest Anacortes and our amazing walk leaders can’t take responsibility for any personal injuries during the walks.

What if I have a medical condition?

If you have any medical issues, please let your walk leader know before the walk starts. Also, let them know if you’re carrying any medication—just in case of an emergency.
